pulling on a line

Although we are now heading into the colder seasons in Australia, I kind of felt like i had missed out on the colour trend of pastels during the spring/summer.
Pastels has not been a popular trending colour palette in Brisbane, which really does say that we're seasons behind everyone else. I'm usually not a very colourful person, however i have recently fallen in love with pastel colours and the whole new subculture of 'nu goth (pastel goths)'. It's refreshing to see and wear softer colours as oppose to always wearing black. I know I'm wearing the colours in a different season, but the weather all year round here is exactly like spring/ summer and bending the fashion rules is what we all do best. Who really does follow the fashion rules these days?

bullet with butterfly wings

For the past few days i have been missing the blogosphere, due to straining my wrist on the weekend.
I am now back in full force to update regularly on the week that has been ! Tonight i was invited by a friend to attend a Marie Claire James Street Up Late event, that was held in Fortitude Valley. All designer label shops along James Street such as Sass & Bide, Camilla, Easton Pearson, Ksubi etc, were all open til 9pm, offering specials in store and lucky guest appearances by the designers themselves. Most of the stores had an intimate setting that allowed one on one time with the designers and garments themselves, however the most popular were of course the festive ones that had gone all out with their interior decoration. Calexico were a standout, going with a carnival theme with balloons, candy, fairy floss, punch, clown balls and even real snakes! This event was a brilliant idea for designers to interact and converse with their own target market and customers, as not everyday they get to see or hear from their consumers. The best feeling in the world is knowing you've made someone feel better about themselves from wearing something you've designed out of your passion and love for fashion.

from the ritz to the rubble

There's a story behind this denim jacket that most of my friends already know and is tired of knowing over and over again. This was my first ever purchase on eBay as I could not take my eyes off of this denim jacket going only for $6 ! I ended up winning the item, however was blasted with bad news that the sender could not mail it to me as the postage was more than what it should have cost. My heart sank a little when she said she would do a refund, but also gave me an alternative option to do a pick up. I was a bit hesitant at the thought of meeting someone online just to pick up a garment however, my love for this jacket had been too deep that I could not say no. It was also a bonus that we both lived in the same city and knew the same area which made the exchange an easy task. The best thing to come out of it was the refund of my postage and only to end up paying $6 for a good conditioned item.
I wore this out for college today battling through the coldness and rain. I was also feeling a tad lazy and did not want to change out of my clothes for a friends birthday dinner so I casually waltz my way into a Japanese restaurant looking under dress.

a more perfect union

The weather has not been giving today, as I woke up feeling very cold and spent the whole day indoors away from the rain. Not like I ever go out anyways since weekends are fully dedicated to college work, work itself and sewing!
Another exciting package arrived on my doorstep today from an eBay purchase I did recently. It's an oversize rose/flower embellished sheer button up kimono style dress shirt (that would be a mouth full to say). The dress shirt reminds me of Addams Family Morticia's elongated black dress with embellished sleeves and bottoms. I'm still not sure how I would style it, as it looks a bit draggy just worn over the body. But I do love the jaggered edges and the floral embellishment all around the arm sleeves. I may pair it up with a metal belt or just have it as a throw over on my outfits.
